To apply for a UAE eVisa you need a passport valid for at least six months from your entry date, a recent passport photo on a white background, a confirmed return or onward ticket, proof of where you will stay and, for most visit visas, recent bank statements. Work, student, business and transit visas add their own documents on top of this core list. This checklist shows what to prepare for each visa type before you open the application form.
Core UAE eVisa Requirements (All Visa Types)
Every electronic visa application, whether filed through the ICP Smart Services portal, the GDRFA Dubai website, an airline or a typing center, asks for the same basic set of documents:
| Requirement | What is accepted | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Passport | Ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with a gender marker (Male or Female) | Emergency or temporary travel documents, damaged pages, validity under 6 months |
| Photograph | Recent colour passport-style photo, white background, full face visible | Sunglasses, shadows, coloured background, old photo |
| Return or onward ticket | Booking that shows departure from the UAE within the visa validity | Ticket dated after the visa expires |
| Accommodation | Hotel booking, rental agreement or invitation from a UAE resident host | Unconfirmed or cancelled reservations |
| Financial proof | Bank statements for the last 3-6 months (requested for many nationalities and visa types) | Statements with sudden one-off deposits or very low balances |
| Travel medical insurance | Policy covering emergency treatment in the UAE (recommended; required for some visa types) | Policy that excludes the UAE or ends before your return date |
Documents are uploaded as scans or photos, usually in JPEG or PDF format. Names, passport numbers and dates must match your passport exactly, because a single typo is one of the most frequent causes of refusal.
Passport Requirements in Detail
The passport is the document UAE immigration checks first. Make sure that:
- it remains valid for at least six months after the day you arrive in the UAE;
- it is a regular passport book – emergency passports and similar temporary documents are not accepted;
- the data page is undamaged and readable, and the scan shows the whole page including the machine-readable zone;
- it shows a gender marker of M or F.
Citizens of the GCC states (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia) do not need a visa and can enter with their national ID card. Nationalities that qualify for a visa on arrival do not apply in advance either – see the UAE visa-free countries list.
Photo Requirements
The photograph must be recent and taken against a plain white background. Your face must be fully visible, looking straight at the camera, without sunglasses or tinted glasses. Head coverings are accepted only for religious reasons, as long as the face from chin to forehead is visible. Selfies with uneven light or a cropped head are often sent back for correction, which delays processing.
Additional Requirements by Visa Type
| Visa type | Extra documents on top of the core list | Who applies |
|---|---|---|
| Tourist / visit visa | Return ticket and accommodation are mandatory; bank statements often requested; host’s details if staying with family or friends | Applicant online, via a UAE airline, hotel or travel agent |
| Transit visa (48 or 96 hours) | Confirmed onward ticket to a third country; booking with a UAE airline that sponsors the visa | The airline (Emirates, Etihad, flydubai) on behalf of the passenger |
| Business visa | Invitation letter from the UAE company you are visiting | Applicant or the inviting UAE company |
| Work / employment visa | Signed job offer or contract, attested educational certificates, medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics after arrival | The UAE employer (MOHRE or free-zone authority) |
| Student visa | Admission letter from a UAE-accredited institution | The sponsoring university or college |
| Family visit visa | Proof of relationship and the sponsor’s UAE residence details | The UAE resident family member |

How long must my passport be valid for a UAE visa?
At least six months from the date you enter the UAE. Emergency or temporary passports are not accepted for an eVisa.

It is strongly recommended for all visitors and required for some visa types. Choose a policy that covers emergency medical treatment in the UAE for the full length of your stay.

Yes, proof of accommodation is required for most visit visas. A hotel reservation, rental agreement or an invitation from a UAE resident who will host you is accepted.

GCC citizens enter with their national ID card, and passport holders from countries on the visa-on-arrival list receive their visa at the airport. Everyone else needs a visa arranged before travel.
Why are UAE eVisa applications rejected?
The most common reasons are missing or unclear documents, a passport with less than six months’ validity, typos in names or passport numbers, insufficient proof of funds and previous overstays or immigration violations in the UAE or other GCC countries.
